Executor of the Sixth Olefin Project
National Petrochemical Company In order to accelerate the activities of the petrochemical development projects and the use of domestic and foreign investment, established the Amir kabir Petrochemical Company (Public Joint Stock Company) as the executor of the ongoing projects.
In this regard, in May1998, Amir Kabir Petrochemical Company was selected as the executor of the 6th Olefin Project. The sixth olefin project was the projects approved by the second five-year plan of the National Petrochemical Company.
Amir Kabir Petrochemical Company produces the most diverse polymeric products including High-Density polyethylene, Low-Density polyethylene and Linear Low-Density polyethylene at the national level which has a major position in the Iranian Petrochemical industry by supplying its products in domestic & foreign market.
The complex is proud to have made the construction of furnaces and a reactor for conversion of acetylene in Olefin Plant & also the construction of HD Plant reactors for the first time inside the country.
Arvand Petrochemical Co. is situated in southern of Iran. It has been constructed at site 3 of Bandar Imam Petrochemical Special Economic Zone, on the northern coast of the Persian Gulf. Sprawling on a
108-hectare, it seeks to help the country move towards self-sufficiency, industrial development and to provide the related local and downstream sector with the required raw material. Arvand was initially planned to implement olefins, MEG and EOG plants. But, the olefins plant was later transferred to Gachsaran petrochemical Co.
In 2002, the petrochemical industries Development Management Co.,a subsidiary to the National Petrochemical Co. (NPC) of Iran and a consortium of Uhbe of Germany and Sazeh of Iran entered into a
contract for the construction of Chlor-alkali(CA), ethylene dichloride (EDC), vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) units. Arvand Petrochemical Co. was tasked with implementing these projects. The APC complex consists of EDC/VCM and PVC plants as well as an air separation unit (ASU),a CF unit, cooling towers, an air plant, a salt washing unit and brine transfer pipeline.lts output includes valuable products such as NaOH 50%, chlorine gas, Sodium hypochlorite, EDC, E-PVC and S-PVC. After the bidding, an EP contract was awarded to the Uhde- Sazeh consortium in 2003.
In the early seventies, a 50 – 50 joint venture agreement was signed between national petrochemical company (N.P.C) of Iran and a consortium of Japanese firms, headed by Mitsui & co., in order to construct this giant petrochemical complex, under the name of Iran-japan petrochemical company (I.J.P.C).
Preliminary and basic activities, including back filling , site grading , construction of buildings and warehouses, installation of power, water and steam facilities and construction of jetties began in 1974.
When the Iraqi war on Iran began in 1980, construction activities of the complex were just about %73 complete throughout the 8 years of war , the complex sustained heavy damages. After the cease fire and suspension of around eleven years, the Iran – japan venture was was officially terminated by mutual agreement .from that time, N.P.C undertook the reconstruction of the damaged complex and company’s name was changed to Bandar Imam petrochemical Co.(B.I.P.C)
At this stage, the resumption of site activities began with the cooperation of national and international contractors, and complex units came on stream, one by one from 1990 through 1994.
5 subsidiaries are currently present in the B.I.P.C and its overall production network which operate to a certain extent within fixed boundaries and some given authorities, on the other hand, B.I.P.C provides centralized services and support system such as contract affairs, commercial services , central laboratories, R&D, strategic studies and system affairs.

Jam Petrochemical Company (private joint stock) got registered under No. 32285 in Companies Registration Department in Aug 30, 2000. The legal personality of the company was altered from’ the private joint stock to the public joint stock’ on the basis of extraordinary general meeting dated Sep 15, 2008. At present, JPC owns about %75 of the total shares of Jam Polypropylene Company and %100 shares of Sana’t-karan Jam Company with sum 4800 billion RLS. As per approval of board of directors, the execution of tenth Olefin project from the plans of the third five-year development plan for development of petrochemical industries in pre-utilization stage was bestowed to Jam Petrochemical Company (private Joint Stock) since Aug 30, 2000. In order to achieve some goals of the industrial development of Iran, the main targets and objectives of the plan have been listed as follow:
- boosting financial income as well as promotion of scientific, technical, economical and social knowledge level of the country;
- Development of oil export and petrochemical products and increasing the relative market share in regional and global market;
- Optimum utilization of hydrocarbon resources and thus leading to creation of more added value;
- Promotion of technical knowledge level in engineering and equipment manufacturing field ;
- Job creation to soar employment levels ;
- Enhancement of national executive power.
Based on of the final investigation of the approved budget, the total investment on administration of the overall project has been estimated to hit $1585 million dollars and Rls 11185 billion (Iranian domestic currency).

Jam Petrochemical Company, in terms of capacity, stands first in Iran & is one of the largest petrochemical producers of in the world. This complex enjoys some unique features which makes it unique in Islamic republic of Iran’s economy:
- Jam petrochemical olefin unit to produce a capacity of 1,320,000 tons of ethylene and 306,000 tons of propylene per year is one of the largest olefin units in the country and the world. State of the art technologies are utilized in the manufacture of this unit and global scale are also observed in capacity selection.
- A unique feature of Jam Petrochemical Complex Olefin unit, compared to other units, is its high capacity of production and the possibility of utilization of dual-purposes furnaces to enable to use both gas and liquid feed.
- HDPE Unit of Jam Petrochemical Company to produce 300,000 tons annually is one of largest polymer units in Iran. In addition to producing the 26 main grids, this unit is able to produce black, yellow, blue and normal grids. These features of products are distinctive in it the country as well as in the world.
- LLDPE Unit of Jam Petrochemical Company to produce 300, 000 tons of products, is one of the largest units in the polymer. The extruder capacity in this unit is 42 tons per hour and it has the ability to produce more than 54 different grids of products.
- Butadiene Unit to produce a capacity of 115,000 tons stands unique unit in Iran, in terms of production, purity degree and product quality in the country.

On the occasion of top 100 Iranian companies, JPC stood at the 27th rank. Only Persian Gulf Holding and Noori Petrochemical company had better ranking in the petrochemical companies group. Persian Gulf Holding is a group of 16 petrochemical companies and allocated the 3rd rank to itself. Noori petrochemical company was ranked 16th due to its high profit and products diversity. Bandar e Emam and Maroun petrochemical companies were ranked 28 and 30th, respectively. Iran’s top 100 companies list includes 15 petrochemical firms.

LOCATION AND ADVANTAGES
JPC is considered as one of the largest producers of chemical and polymeric products in Iran and owns production lines of Olefin, LLDP and HDPE, Butadiene and Butene-1. Company’s registered capital reaches to about 170 million USD. It owns 49% of Jam Poly Propylene Co., 100% of Jam Sanat Karan, 100% of Tapco Co. and 25% of Gohar Ofogh Industrial Park’s share.

Shahid Tondgooyan Petrochemical Company (STPC) is located in North East of Persian Gulf in Iran. This company has been stablished in 1998 in Special Economic Zone of Imam Khomeini Port Fourth Site, at the Province of Khuzestan in about 34 hectares area for producing Purified Therephtalic Acid (PTA) and Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) .
Following the increase of consumption of PTA and PET in the domestic and foreign markets, in order to fulfill part of our commitment towards the second development plan of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the National Petrochemical Industrial Company constructed STPC with the following aims:
· Produce raw materials for downstream industries such as textile and packaging industry, and save currency.
· Compete in global markets and create foreign income.
· Move towards growing independence and transfer modern technology.
· Transfer knowledge and educate specialists and professional labor.
· Create employment opportunities in downstream industries .
· Contribute effectively to Iran economy and social development.
Pure Terephtalice Acid (PTA) is one of the main raw materials for production of PET. This has extensive applications and consumptions worldwide. PTA is also one of the main types of polyester with wide range of application in POY and Staple for textile industry, bottles, cans, and also used in packaging of food, drugs, health care and plastic films. Its consumption is constantly on rise.
Shahid Tondgooyan Petrochemical Company (STPC) is also proud to be active in production of two other important and strategic products of POY and Staple.
Based on company organization chart, 1180 permanent employees were required at the time of start-up, while, further positions were filled by contractors in the privet sector. Furthermore, as a result of this activity, more than 5000 employment position are estimated in downstream industries.
US$774 million and 2085 billion Rials capital were invested in plant contraction and the total amount of the annual product sales was estimated to be over US$ 800 million.
PTA-1 was licensed by Tecnimont-Italy and PET-1 was licensed by Zimmer-Germany. Sazeh and Dilam (S. Korea) were jointly responsible for Engineering and Procurement for PTA-1 and Chegalesh and Zimmer (Germany) for PET-1.
The major construction, installation and pre-start up contracts started from May. 2000 for PTA1 with ECC and Nov. 2000 for PET-1 with QIEC. Despite QIEC leaving the construction and installation project, the project was finalized by Petrobart and Farayand-Kav consortium and later by Ramico Company.
PTA-2 licence was Japanese company MCC and PET-2 was under Noe Valisina Company, Italy. Tomen, MAI and Chegalesh performed the detail designs and procurement for PTA-2. The detail and procurement for PET-2 were Noe Valicinai -Italy and Namoran
The major construction, installation and pre-start up contracts was executed from Oct. 2003 for PTA-2 with Industrial Development Network Company. The Iranian companies wholly carried out the construction and installation.
The Factory of this company, with an area of 5 acres, is located on site 3 of Bandar Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone. The first unit, production of MTBE with a capacity of 45 thousand tons in 2002 and the second unit with the same capacity in 2006 was produced. Input feeding to this complex includes cut four-carbon (Raffinate 1) and methanol and its products including Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) as the main product and cut four-carbon (Raffinate 2) as a by-product.
MTBE, its features and applications:
Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether is an organic compound with the chemical formula C5H12O and is the family of saturated aliphatic ether. At standard temperature and pressure, it was colorless liquid, flammable with 88.15 molecular weight and has melting point of – 9 ° C, boiling point of 53.6-55.2 ° C and vapor pressure of 0.268 bar at a temperature of 20 ° C. MTBE at room temperature, is colorless, flammable, solubility in water and evaporative. Oxygen-containing compounds acted as octane enhancer of gasoline and has the advantage of more complete combustion of fuel and as a result, a significant reduction in exhaust emissions of cars. In some cases, as solver of gallstone was used for medical purposes.
